It is no news that the DG DSS, Mr Lawal Daura, a supposed cousin of the President and the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria has been sacked by the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.
However, what is not clear to many is the very reason why such occurence happened at this sensitive time of the year. This is the period of elections and politiking, therfore, many would have expected the ruling party to keep on window dressing every inaction of its members and cabinet till after the election of 2019. Nonetheless, when you analyze what Mr Daura has done against this government and the implication of such in the long run, you will understand what it means.
We can vididly remember the damning two letters that have suspended the confirmation of the Acting Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Despite the involvement of the President in the matter, Mr Daura did not bulge, he insisted that Mr Magu be removed based on the ‘facts’ at his disposal.
Lawal Daura and Abba Kyari, his brother, were the two individuals that almost removed the First Lady (the wife of the President) Mrs Aisha Buhari due to how they marginalized the woman at the dawn of this administration. The issue got worse when the President was sick and Lawal Daura and his friend Abba Kyari refused to allow Mrs Aisha to see her husband. It was reported then that Mrs Buhari wept bitterly as a result of this sad scenario.
On getting home, after the arrival of her husband, Mrs Buhari demanded for the sack of people who did not work for the emergence of APC in 2015 elections and praised the Vice President for being a reliable leuitenant to her husband when he was away. This led to the issue of ‘the other room’ which was a big joke in the nation at the time. When the President was in Germany and was acked about the comment from his wife, he jokingly said, ‘ my wife seems to be acting as one of the opposing forces now, even though my wife belongs to the kitchen, the room and the other room’. But what women see through their instincts at times, men may not see it until they fall victim.
Lawal Daura was the same instrument in the hands of the mischief makers through their manipulations who physically blocked the EFCC from arresting the ex DSS CHief and NIA boss, Oke after Magu moved to arrest them. Daura made it look like the government was fighting itself.
The smuggling in of Maina into Nigeria was also recorded to be partially related to Mr Lawal Daura and the Attorney of the Federation, Mr Abubakar Malami who both perfected Maina’s records and provided protection for him within in such a manner that he would not be arrested by anyone be it police or EFCC.
It has been said that the oppositions have not only used this against the government, it also seems that this cabal has been bought over by the opposition and they are being used to topple the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.
We can recall how Saraki’s house was said to have been ‘blocked’ without anyone ordering such occurence from the Presidency. This has been proven in some quarters as a political gimmick that some individuals who control the security apparatus planned as a decoy to shift the direction of the real issue by the opposition.
The siege of the National Assembly today is the straw that seems to have broken the camel’s back. It was reported to be an ‘order from above’. This is a term thatis often being used by politicians that have surreptitious and ulterior motives to carry out their dastardly acts.
With the President on leave and Professor Osinbajo in acting capacity, one would easily think, the Acting President is reponsible for such evil deed. This was actually planned to smear the name of the innocent man who knew nothing about this action. It has been reported by some quarters that Mr Lawal Daura has been working for the Senate President Bukola Saraki at the expense of the nation and the President who will bear the whole brunts at the end.
It was, therefore, a shock to read today as it was disclosed by Osinbajo’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande. Akande in a statement said, “Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has directed the termination of the appointment of the Director General, State Security Service, DSS, Mr. Lawal Musa Daura with immediate effect.
”Mr. Daura has been directed to hand over to the most senior officer of the State Security Service until further notice.”
Osinbajo had earlier summoned the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and the Director-General of the Department of State Security, Malam Lawan Daura at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The two security chiefs, who arrived Aso Rock at different times, were to update the acting president on security developments including the blockade of the National Assembly by security officials.
The Inspector-General of Police was the first to arrive at about 12.35 p.m. before the arrival of the DSS Director General at about 1.15 p.m.
The police and operatives of the DSS on Tuesday morning blocked the main gate of the National Assembly, preventing lawmakers and staff from gaining access into the complex. The security operatives later allowed the lawmakers access into the complex while journalists and other staff were barred.
It’s generally believed that the sack of the DG of DSS may not be unconnected to his role in the Tuesday’s siege of the National Assembly and his other related offenses.
Considering his position, this might be one of the most sensitive steps ever taken by the administration. This singular act will have its signalling effects on others and the resultant effects shall be positive in the long run.
